
Location:
Queen Elizabeth National Park is located in western Uganda, along the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo, between the towns of Kasese and Rukungiri. It covers an area of approximately 1,978 square kilometers (764 square miles), making it Uganda’s second-largest national park after Murchison Falls National Park. The park’s landscape is a mosaic of savannah grasslands, tropical forests, wetlands, and lakes.
Ecosystems and Biodiversity:
The park is renowned for its extraordinary biodiversity, with over 95 mammal species and more than 600 bird species, making it one of the most biologically diverse parks in Africa. The park’s diverse ecosystems include acacia woodlands, tropical rainforests, swamps, and the scenic Kazinga Channel, which connects Lake Edward and Lake George. This variety of habitats supports a wide range of species, from large mammals to vibrant birdlife.
